About the Job


The director reports to the Dean and is a strategic leadership team member of the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM). Responsibilities include HR planning, employee relations, recruitment, compensation, and diversity initiatives. In collaboration with CVM and University HR, this position will lead initiatives to foster engagement and create a supportive environment through professional development, collaboration, and diversity programs.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Leadership and Planning: 45%

Lead the development, implementation, and evaluation of HR strategies for CVM, focusing on measurable outcomes and organizational needs.Drive a client-centric HR department, fostering innovation, service excellence, and employee engagement.Collaborate with CVM leadership to shape strategic direction, facilitate change, and ensure compliance with HR policies.Promote HR best practices and inclusive strategies to enhance diversity and equity within the college.Streamline cross-functional processes with the finance team, ensuring seamless coordination.Provide strategic analyses and actionable insights to senior leadership.Lead business process improvements and prioritize critical HR projects aligned with college goals.Develop proposals for new HR programs/policies and represent CVM at university-wide initiatives.
Workforce Planning, Compensation, Talent Management and Engagement: 40%
Manage recruitment, onboarding, and exits for efficient workforce management.Oversee hiring processes for smooth operations.Establish and execute competitive compensation policies.Provide expertise on salary evaluations and performance matters.Collaborate on training and development programs, leveraging resources.Offer ongoing consultation to align HR with CVM priorities.Anticipate and advise on future staffing needs.Design and evaluate talent management initiatives.Lead investigations into employee complaints and guide conflict resolution.Support diversity and inclusion goals and serve as HR liaison.Lead engagement efforts to retain top talent and enhance workplace effectiveness.
Supervision: 10%
Lead and supervise HR team handling recruitment, training, talent management, and more.Coordinate with collaborators across the college.Manage HR services in a shared-services model.Evaluate employee performance and provide training and coaching.Provide leadership and guidance on labor and employee relations.Ensure HR staff are equipped to deliver professional services.
Compliance: 5%
Ensure HR practices comply with laws, policies, and contracts.Stay up-to-date on employment laws and oversee investigations into violations.Advise on HR risk management and take action to minimize risk.Escalate complex HR issues for consultation and investigation.


Qualifications

BA/BS, plus 10 years of related professional experience in Human Resources. Experience in supervisory roles or previous leadership positions.Proven experience in cultivating and nurturing relationships.Proficient in employment laws and HR regulations.Ability to effectively deal with ambiguity, using sound judgment and discretion.Demonstrated experience and commitment to fostering workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion.Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, across all levels of the organization.Success working and leading in a complex, multi-layered, and collaborative environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced degree in HR or related field.SPHR or SHRM-SCP Certification.Experience in workforce/job design.Experience in organizational change and development.Experience administering needs of different labor and professional categories.Experience interpreting collective-bargaining agreements and handling corrective action and grievance processes.Skills and/or training in change management and conflict resolution.Aptitude with using and adapting technological systems to facilitate and expedite human resources processes.Experience in higher education and/or a public-sector setting.
