About the Job
The Assistant Professor will be expected to undertake
responsibilities in the following areas, subject to the needs of
the Center for Learning Health System Sciences (CLHSS) and the
Department of Surgery: Social Science and Implementation Science
Lead (SSIS), CLHSS - The SSIS will lead the development,
implementation, and scalability of mixed methods, social and
behavioral science services, and dissemination and implementation
science services to support CLHSS efforts to increase capacity for
learning health systems. Partner with CLHSS members and other
stakeholders to perform aspects of projects with mixed methods,
social and behavioral science services, and dissemination and
implementation science in collaboration with operational and
research partners including CLHSS and collaborator
projects/programs. Example projects include facilitating a
dissemination and implementation plan for a project, survey and
instrument framework determination for evaluation, and connecting
with clinical decision support or other technologies, data methods,
and participation in engagement strategies. Efforts will also
include conducting high quality research associated with CLHSS
projects to mature these practices over time and to share best
practices and learnings. As a leader in CLHSS, actively participate
in center leadership meetings and events, and execute on assigned
initiatives. Research - Identifying funding opportunities and
participating in and/or leading research teams in developing grant
proposals and executing the resulting grant projects once awarded.
Conducting research with social and behavioral science along with
implementation and dissemination science including process
evaluation, either facilitating these evaluations or leading
evaluations together with broader research teams. Developing
research interests specific to the faculty's interest. Service -
Leading or serving on committees and taking on responsibilities
directly related to those projects and applications aligned with
both the CLHSS' and Surgery's commitment to learning health system
research, dissemination and implementation science, and education.
Contribute to the development of the profession through
participation in national and/or international associations,
publications, and/or other related activities. Continue personal
growth within the profession, keep current with the field, and
broaden their knowledge and expertise. Teaching and Mentoring - As
a faculty member at UMN, provide teaching and other related
activities with learners, including mentoring of peers and trainees
in your area of expertise.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:-Possession of a terminal degree (MD or
equivalent, or PhD) in clinical medicine, health services research,
sociology, or related field or equivalent experience (e.g.,
advanced training in learning health systems science, dissemination
and implementation science, certification or research-based
practice).-Demonstrated involvement in high-quality research in
dissemination and implementation science, social sciences or
mixed-methods evaluation which has been accepted for publication or
is published in peer-reviewed national or international
journals.-Documentation of competence in the skills of
communication, including effective communication in teaching
students and in oral and written presentations of
research.-Expertise in dissemination and implementation science
frameworks, mixed methods evaluation approaches; and consultative
experience in determining appropriate implementation and evaluation
plans. Preferred Qualifications:-Demonstrated ability in teaching
and course development-Project management skills or familiarity
with project management and program management
methodologies.-Experience with healthcare delivery projects,
quality improvement, and healthcare operations

The Center for Learning Health System Sciences is a one-of-a-kind
partnership between the Medical School and School of Public Health
with a goal to decrease the time it takes for science to make it
from the lab to the clinic in pursuit of better health outcomes for
the patients we serve. CLHSS is composed of a core and five
programs spanning the data-knowledge-practice LHS lifecycle
including evidence synthesis, pragmatic trials, digital health, and
